Get Help

You don't have to work this out alone.

Whether something has already happened or you just want a second opinion before you act, here is where to start.

In immediate danger?

If someone is in immediate danger, email info@evervela.org now. EVERVELA is not an emergency service.

If something has already happened

  1. 1

Stop and contact your bank or card issuer

Speed matters more than certainty. You do not need to have everything figured out before you call. Ask them to freeze or monitor the account.

  2. 2

    Report it

In the US, the Department of Justice runs the National Elder Fraud Hotline at 833-372-8311, with case managers who stay with you through the process.

  3. 3

    Protect yourself going forward

Change affected passwords, turn on two-step verification, and do not reply to the sender again. Tell someone you trust.

More than fraud?

If your concern is broader than fraud — neglect, financial exploitation by someone close, or physical harm — the Eldercare Locator at info@evervela.org will connect you with the right agency in your state.
